This color documentary reports on the beauties of the car-free island of Hiddensee, but also on the changes caused by the sea through land erosion and washing out. Peaceful landscape shots alternate with snapshots of the villages of Kloster, Grieben and Neuendorf. The camera accompanies the fishermen of Neuendorf in their eel fishing and in their efforts with landing nets to find the coveted amber in the churning sea. The colorful contemporary document of the 1950s shows in "Totalvision" the neighboring island of Rügen far away from tourism.
